Healthier Alternatives For Your Sweet Tooth

1. Homemade Fruit Compote
In the morning, many people love to make fluffy pancakes topped with lots of warm syrup. This may be okay when it’s done every once in a while. However, eating this meal on a daily or even weekly basis can do some damage. Instead of using buttermilk batter for your pancakes, try making waffles out of buckwheat or flaxseed flour. These whole grains are much better for your system. Instead of using lots of syrup, make a homemade fresh fruit compote. Cut up a few fresh berries of your choice and add them to a pot with a 1/2 cup of water. Infuse a little bit of honey to taste. This option still satisfies the sweet tooth yet it gives you the healthy antioxidants and other nutrients your body needs.

2. Sorbets and Yogurts
After a delicious dinner meal, most people are ready for a little dessert. A piece of strawberry shortcake is nice to have on occasion. But, the amount of sugar in a shortcake is too much to consume consistently. If you’d like a nice dessert to follow your dinner meal, make your own sorbet. When you make your own, you can control the ingredients you place in it. Get one large, ripe mango and cut it up into chunks. Along with a dash of fresh lemon juice and a few tablespoons of coconut milk, place it in the blender to combine. Add a few drops of liquid stevia and you’ll have a delicious, soft-serve sorbet to enjoy without the guilt. If you’re not in the mood to stand and make your own dessert, try frozen yogurt products. Frozen yogurt is considered the healthy alternative to ice cream. You can also add toppings like fresh fruit and nuts to increase the nutritional value.
